## Why product variants eventually fall short

Traditional variants built into popular ecommerce platforms were never designed for complex, configurable products. As the number of options grows, performance, management and the buying experience quickly begin to suffer.

### Thousands of product variants

**10,000+** variants for a simple product

10 sizes x 6 materials x 20 colors = 1200 variants for one product. Add another attribute and it becomes tens of thousands.

### Slower performance

**8s+** page load with 5,000 variants

More product variants mean more data for the store to process. Every option change requires another server request to find the correct variant and refresh part of the product page.

### Difficult price management

**3hrs+** to update one product's pricing

Every product variant is stored separately. Changing the surcharge for a single material means updating hundreds of variants that use it.

### A poor buying experience

To keep variant counts manageable, merchants often leave some options off the product page and ask customers to add them as order notes. This creates more room for mistakes, requires manual order checks and makes the entire buying process more costly and complicated.

## How it works

A fundamentally different approach to product pricing. Fewer combinations. Smarter pricing logic. No performance collapse.

Using only 51 combinations instead of 7920

### 1. Attributes

*Prepare the available product attributes*

Create product attributes that are available across the entire store, such as colors, material types, sizes, and add-ons. For each attribute, you can define how it affects other options. For example, selecting a black desktop may hide all frame colors except black, making the remaining options unavailable. For attribute groups, you can configure additional settings, such as inheriting attributes from other groups or allowing multiple selections within a group.

### 2. Configuration

*Create the product configurator*

Use the available attributes and our generator to build the product configurations you want to offer. The idea is simple: every option that affects the price must exist as a separate combination in the database. Instead of creating one complex variant such as “a 120x60 cm desk with white legs, a grey top and no accessories”, create separate price entries for every size, one entry covering the standard desktop colors, and another for colors available at an extra cost. This is only part of what STYRTA can do - explore the demo products to discover more.

### 3. Pricing

*Real-time pricing in the customer’s browser*

The pricing logic runs entirely in the customer’s browser. No server requests means no delays and a completely smooth configurator experience. Customers see the final price instantly after changing any option

### 4. Validation

*Server verifies at checkout*

When the customer adds to cart, the server independently recalculates the price using the same logic. This ensures no tampering is possible while keeping the browsing experience instant.

## Simple, transparent pricing

Three plans, billed annually. Choose the level that fits how you sell configurable products.

### Core

A self-install PrestaShop module for stores selling configurable products online.

**List price:** 279 EUR / year excl. VAT
≈€23 - per month, billed annually
(excl. VAT)

Requirements: ionCube, PS 8.2+, PHP 8.1+

The module requires PrestaShop 8.2 or newer, PHP 8.1 or newer, and a server with ionCube Loader installed. We recommend PrestaShop 9 and PHP 8.5. The module cannot be installed without ionCube Loader.

#### Included in this plan

- Dynamic surcharges and pricing
- Hide dependent options - For example, choosing a black cabinet can hide white and green handle options.
- Multi-select groups - Let customers select multiple attributes from the same group.
- Product Quick View - The configurator is available in the product Quick View window on product listing pages.
- Combination generator and editor - Create custom combinations that work with the configurator and edit combinations you already have.
- Full configuration description everywhere - Customers see the complete product configuration throughout checkout and in order confirmation emails. Store staff can also see it on cart and order pages in the back office.

### Pro (Most popular)

A self-install PrestaShop module for larger stores and teams selling configurable products.

**List price:** 599 EUR / year excl. VAT
≈€50 - per month, billed annually
(excl.

- **Everything in Core**
- Attribute inheritance - Reuse the same attributes across different option groups. For example, after selecting an armchair material, customers can choose separate colors of that material for the seat, backrest and footrest.
- Attribute availability - Display availability dates assigned to product combinations and set availability dates for selected attributes. For example, brown genuine leather can become available across the store starting March 1.
- Combination templates - Create product combinations instantly from saved attribute lists.
- Create orders in the back office - Create back-office orders for products that use the configurator.
- Add products to existing orders - Let store staff add configurable products to orders that already exist.

### 14-day money-back guarantee

Install the module, configure your products and test it in your own store. If it doesn't meet your expectations, request a full refund within 14 days of your first purchase.

## Included with every license

Plans differ in features, not in limits.

### 12 months of updates

Every license includes a year of module updates.

### Technical support

Installation help and bug fixes for the full duration of the license.

### Test environments included

Each license covers 1 production store and 3 test environments (dev/staging).

### Works with any store theme

The module works with any storefront theme, with first-class support for Hummingbird in PrestaShop 9.1.

Ready-made presets are available for Hummingbird and Classic-based themes. For a custom theme, you can set your own DOM selectors and CSS in the back office.

### Enable on selected products

Run the configurator on every product, or only on the ones you choose. The rest of the catalog can stay on native PrestaShop variants.

### Discounts and promotions

The module works with PrestaShop discounts and promotions, including quantity thresholds. The one exception is promotions tied to a specific attribute or combination, which the pricing logic cannot apply.

### No product limit

You can run the configurator on as many catalog items as you need.

### No option limit

Add attributes, groups and combinations with no cap.

### No commission on sales

You pay for the license, not for orders. Sales volume does not matter.

## Designed for PrestaShop 9

By dropping compatibility with older PrestaShop releases, the configurator is built on modern tooling with no leftover technical debt.

### Fast, responsive frontend

Vue 3, Vite 5 and TypeScript. The configurator loads only when a customer needs it.

### Symfony backend

PHP 8.1+ with dependency injection, routing, forms and back-office grids.

### Full PrestaShop integration

Cart, orders, emails, the back office, promotions and multiple currencies. The configuration stays in the store.

### No core file changes

Four safe overrides, used only on products that run the configurator. Everything else follows the native PrestaShop path.

## Frequently asked questions

Learn how product configurators differ from other solutions, when they make sense, and how they integrate with your existing business systems.

### What is a product configurator?

A product configurator is a tool that lets the customer choose the parameters of the product they are ordering, such as dimensions, materials, colors or extra equipment, then prices it automatically and lets them place the order without contacting support.

Unlike a standard variant picker, a configurator can handle tens of thousands of related options (product attributes), including dependencies and constraints between them, in a way that is intuitive and easy for the customer to follow.

### When is it worth adding a configurator to an online store?

A product configurator is worth implementing when the number of available options makes it hard to sell the product with standard variants. That is especially true for made-to-measure products, products with a wide color or fabric range, and offers where the availability of one option depends on earlier customer choices.

If handling the product means creating hundreds or thousands of combinations, or manually adding parameters in the order notes, a configurator will simplify the whole process.

### How do product configurators on the market differ?

Most configurators on the market are really personalization tools. They focus mainly on changing how a finished product looks. They let you add text, graphics or a color swap, but they do not necessarily work for stores with a deep assortment, where the customer's choices often change the construction of the whole product. Popular tools work well for T-shirt shops. They are a poorer fit for a furniture manufacturer.

A good configurator focuses first on the logic of the assortment you sell. Correct pricing and compatibility with external systems come first, while the product is still presented in a way that is intuitive for the customer. The heart of a configurator is not the visual layer of the product. It is how complex products are handled.

If the customer's choices affect the availability of later options, the product's construction, compatibility, or how it is priced, you usually need a configurator, not just a personalizer.

### Is a product configurator a fit for B2B sales?

Absolutely. In B2B it is often especially important to capture product knowledge that previously lived with the salesperson: component compatibility, technical constraints, and the rules for a valid configuration. A configurator lets customers build configurations themselves, which takes load off the sales team and speeds up their work.

A B2B product configurator can be rolled out in several ways. Besides a standard setup where customers can place orders, you can also run the platform as a catalog with no visible prices. Finished configurations go to the salesperson, who then decides the discount and the final quote, based on base prices and logic already in the system. That setup requires the STYRTA CPQ add-on.

### Does a product configurator hurt conversion?

It can, if it is designed poorly.

Showing the customer dozens of unclear parameters at once can make the purchase harder. A good configurator should do the opposite: guide the customer through the available options, cut the number of unnecessary decisions, and prevent invalid combinations.

The goal of a configurator is to simplify buying a complex product, not to expose all of its technical complexity.

### Can a product configurator be connected to an ERP or production system?

Yes, but how you integrate depends on the specific system and on the data needed to fulfill the order.

The configurator's main job is to store an unambiguous record of what was configured. That data can then be used by an integration with ERP, production, warehouse, CRM, or other software.

STYRTA Configurator is based on combinations with an assigned index (reference code) and on product attributes, which are usually enough for a solid integration with external systems. Rolling out that kind of solution requires a custom quote.

### Do I need an external configurator platform to sell configurable products?

No. An external SaaS platform (a configurator in the cloud) is only one way to implement a configurator.

The configurator can also run as part of your online store. STYRTA Product Configurator runs inside PrestaShop, so the store does not have to move the core product configuration process onto a separate platform. That keeps you independent of external vendors (all configuration data stays yours) and keeps the experience consistent at every stage of the sale.

### Do I have to rebuild the whole store to add a product configurator?

No. Adding a configurator does not have to mean rebuilding the entire catalog or checkout.

You can start STYRTA Configurator only on the products where standard variants are the biggest bottleneck, and keep selling everything else the way you do today.

That lets you roll out configuration gradually, instead of rebuilding the whole store at once.

### Will I get a VAT invoice for the module I buy?

Yes. For a business purchase you will receive a sales document that includes your company details and follows the tax rules that apply in your country.

Sales are processed by Stripe Managed Payments in the Merchant of Record model, and the invoice is issued by Link, LLC, based in the United States (EU OSS VAT: EU440000220).
